October, 2010:

18-month checkup…

After one of my adoring fans mentioned yesterday that he noticed I haven’t posted in six months (and I had to correct him to say it’s been 18 months instead), I thought it would be appropriate to catch up. Where have I been since March 28, 2009?

  • Mrs. Tjbrown.com and I closed on the sale of our townhouse and bought a single family house a couple miles east. It’s a great home in a great neighborhood, and even though it’s been a lot of work, we couldn’t be happier with it.
  • My sister, with whom I work, provided me with a niece, which meant extra work during the time she was on maternity leave.
  • After a couple of months of working on the house, Mrs. Tjbrown.com informed me of a coming arrival. This required much more work on the house and furnishings within.
  • In March 2010, said arrival arrived, at halftime of this game. Very considerate to his mother.
  • Said arrival and I became fast friends, despite vast generational differences and a language barrier. Funny how that happens.
Well, I’m back and I’ll try to resume semi-regular postings. In 18-months EVERYTHING can change. Back then, everyone told me conservatism is dead. I expect that in a few weeks everyone will try to explain liberalism is dead. (Neither is true.)
We Cubs fans are a year into the so-far failed Ricketts Family era. It’s become comical.
Not too long ago, hockey in Chicago was nothing more than a rumor. Now, the Blackhawks are the team to watch in the winter.
A new mayor will be running Chicago in a few months. I expect the mayoral race to further ruin my faith in humanity. Let’s remind ourselves that while those running for office are human too, they really are politicians.
